Government Celebrate Canadian Citizenship on Canada Day

The Governments of Canada and Ontario joined in a celebration of the 60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship with a special citizenship ceremony on the grounds of Queen's Park today. "This Canada Day is a milestone in the citizenship journey for these new Canadians, and for all of Canada," said the Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State, Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity. "I am pleased to join our provincial partner to mark this occasion and celebrate our shared Canadian values." The Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration hosted the ceremony with citizenship Judge Agnes Potts presiding. Thirty new Canadians from eighteen countries took the oath of citizenship at the special ceremony. "The Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario have come together to implement a ground breaking Immigration Agreement that helps Ontarians, and all Canadians, as our great country grows," added Mr. Kenney. "Last year the Government of Canada welcomed over 159,000 new citizens to the province of Ontario."
